FAQ

What can I expect when I work with a TSNE consultant?
You can expect to work closely with a lead consultant who draws on the wealth of knowledge and experience of her team. You can expect to be involved and informed at every stage of the process, and to be asked to contribute and commit to it. You can also expect to work with a consultant who is responsive, flexible, and well versed in the challenges facing nonprofits and their communities. Our whole-systems approach is influenced by our commitment to promoting democratic values and constituent involvement.

What is capacity building? How can a consultant fit in with that process?
TSNE defines capacity building as the process of developing and strengthening skills, abilities, processes and resources that organizations and communities need to survive, adapt and thrive in a fast-changing world. Consultants can help you identify areas that would benefit from capacity building and address them strategically.

What kinds of organizations do you work with? What are your client-selection criteria?
We work with nonprofit organizations of all sizes: from unincorporated groups to national organizations. We especially welcome inquiries from organizations that promote social or economic justice, and who demonstrate real commitment to organizational development.

Do you facilitate one-day retreats?
We are whole systems practitioners, and typically facilitate retreats as part of long-term board or staff development plans. However, we also believe that there are certain situations where facilitating a single retreat or meeting can be high-impact and effective. Contact us directly to explore what is best for you and your organization.

How much can I expect to pay for a consultant?
Fees vary depending on the scope and complexity of a project, but TSNE rates generally range from $100-$175 per hour.

How do I know if consulting is right for my organization?
Our consulting team can provide valuable experience and perspective if you find your organization facing challenges and key decisions. If you would like to clarify your mission or strategic vision, evaluate programs and services, share experiences and network with similar groups, improve administrative or financial management to save time and money, then use of consulting services may be a logical first step.

How can I make the most of my consulting relationship?

  • Clarify your goals and ensure that your organization is prepared to meet them; your board and staff should support the consultancy and the process it creates.
  • Develop a partnership with the consultant; anticipate active participation in the process you develop together.
  • Commit to finding and resolving causes, not symptoms; this can take time.
  • Be open with information; the consultant can't help with issues (s)he doesn't understand or know about.
  • Be honest about limits in time, resources, and commitment.
