Ongoing Collaboration

Collaboration with Community Change, Inc. (CCI)

The DI continues its collaboration with Community Change, Inc. (CCI) and its resource library on racism with resource materials on diversity and inclusion. CCI was organized in 1968 to address racist views and policies held by white people and white-controlled institutions. Through its long history, CCI has furthered its mission by developing programs and an extensive library that specifically deal with racism and has focused its services in three areas: providing a watering hole or place where people can meet to discuss important issues; being a united voice for racial justice; and serving as a catalyst for change.

In 1997, a series of focus groups with CCI staff, diversity consultants and DI grantees revealed a significant overlap of materials used in grantees' diversity work and those housed in CCI's library. Many diversity consultants use CCI as a resource in their work, and grantees enthusiastically supported the idea of an expanded library that would include specific diversity materials housed in a central location.  The Pappenheim Library is used by grantees for diversity committee/taskforce meetings to preview videos and plan activities for their organizations.
All organizations new to the DI are required to attend a technical assistance session with CCI. However, CCI services are available to any organization looking for resources to support internal diversity efforts.
