Station1 is an exciting startup nonprofit organization that is building a foundation for the university of the future ― a scalable model of higher education based on inclusion and equity, learning through frontier project-based inquiry and research, and the integration of science and technology with humanistic studies for societal impact. Station1:

  • Creates and implements transformative programs that educate a diverse range of students, in particular those who have lacked opportunity in their lives and education, which foster meaningful careers and lives in our changing world;
  • Carries out specialized higher education projects, for example in the areas of postsecondary finance, blended learning, and computer-assisted curriculum design; and
  • Collaborates with partners across academia, industry, and the public sector to catalyze and foster access and advancement of science and technology-focused higher education.

Position Summary

As Director of Programs, you will assume a key leadership role and will be responsible for the operational success of all Station1 programs. More specifically, as Director of Programs you will oversee, coordinate, and manage Station1’s inaugural program Summer@Station1. Summer@Station1 is a ten-week residential, summer science and technology-focused postsecondary educational and research program where college-level students will participate in team-based projects, gain experience through state-of-the-art internships, and build mentoring relationships. As the Director of Programs, you will have responsibilities that include: student recruitment, admissions, sourcing and internship placement, program development and logistics, student mentoring, digital infrastructure, policies and legal procedures, budgeting, documentation and assessment. The Director of Programs will engage with an exceptional team of founders, instructors, and corporate and university partners in program development and implementation. This position requires residence in the northeastern Massachusetts or the southern New Hampshire region.


  • Represent Station1 programs as a key senior leader of Station1;
  • Developing, manage, and report on annual program budget;
  • Recruitment: Develop a robust pool of qualified applicants for Station1 programs, develop recruiting materials, create and maintain a timeline of recruitment activities, conduct outreach by creating and developing partnerships with organizations, universities, and programs that facilitate student recruitment;
  • Admissions: Develop matrix of admissions criteria, admissions application, and timeline; manage and implement the admissions process, including application review and selection;
  • Internship Placements: Source and identify appropriate internship and project host organizations including local companies, start-ups, and academic research laboratories in north eastern Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire;
  • Coordinate Memorandum of Understandings (MOUs) with host organizations and Station1’s fiscal sponsor, TSNE MissionWorks (e.g. negotiating financial contributions, intellectual property, schedule, non-disclosure agreements, etc.);
  • Source and coordinate a digital infrastructure to manage and assess Station1 programs;
  • Contribute to the development of program structure to best foster the learning objectives and career goals of Station1 programs;
  • Develop a timeline and matrix of all program elements and direct, manage and oversee all program elements;
  • Source student housing and negotiate leases;
  • Source co-working and instructional space and negotiate leases;
  • Coordinate student travel;
  • Develop outcomes, assessment plan and source appropriate technology platform for program assessment; develop a dynamic scorecard/dashboard that supports effective management and continuous improvement or Station1 programs;
  • Maintain communication continuity and foster engagement with host organization’s point of contact and mentors throughout the summer;
  • Write a final summary report to go into Station1’s annual report, including assessment data. Produce other student and assessment data as needed;
  • Engage with and mentor students. Facilitate cohort and community building;
  • Assist with interviewing and hiring of program assistants, teaching assistants, and residential assistants, as needed;
  • Create a plan for building relationships with program alumni.


  • Minimum of a BA, preferably advanced degree and in science, technology, engineering or math;
  • Management, leadership and supervisory experience in academia desired;
  • Demonstrated success developing, evaluating and implementing program models;
  • Proficient in use of technology as a management reporting tool; experience working with information technology staff to develop and implement program evaluation systems;
  • Strong skills managing complex, multifaceted projects that have resulted in measurable successes;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Ability to work with diverse constituencies while articulating the values of STEM education;
  • A commitment to and passion for Station1’s mission;
  • Experience engaging with industry and corporate sponsors, negotiating legal agreements, in particular in the Boston region a plus;
  • Must be willing to travel as necessary to achieve strategic objectives;
  • Desire to work in a small and rapidly developing startup environment;
