A fiscally sponsored program of TSNE MissionWorks, Real Food Generation (RFG) leverages the power of young people to create a healthy and equitable food system. We organize students and young people to run campaigns that expose concentration and racism in our food system and win victories for a Real Food system. The Real Food Challenge (RFC) also maintains a national network of student food activists — providing opportunities for networking, learning, and leadership development for thousands of emerging leaders.
The Assistant Northeast Coordinator will be responsible for securing 1-3 Real Food Campus Commitments in New England. He/she will build and maintain relationships with a subset of schools in the region, visit the campuses, and help to identify strategies for the future. He/she will also assist the Program Coordinator with other projects as needed.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Support students, staff and administrators at New England schools where there is interest in signing the Real Food Campus Commitment to move towards victory;
- Support teams at select New England schools that are implementing the Real Food Campus Commitment to develop/strengthen Food Systems Working Groups, institutionalize the Real Food Calculator, and develop strategic plans;
- Organize with student groups to build their base, create strategic plans for their campaigns and take action;
- Train and support students on managing relationships with campus decision-makers and food system stakeholders;
- Maintain relationships with staff, faculty and administrators at campuses that
are working on real food campaigns or that are implementing the Real
Food Campus Commitment or running the Real Food Calculator;
- Plan, coordinate, and lead campus visits and trainings.
Possible Additional Projects:
- Research criteria to inform national standards for real food;
- Develop written resources to support students, staff and administrators in bringing real food to campus.

- Driver’s license and access to a car preferred.
Experience and knowledge
- 2+ years’ experience community organizing, planning campaign strategy, facilitating discussions and curriculum with diverse groups, and creating inclusive communities;
- In-depth understanding of college and university power structures and decision-making processes; on-campus student activism and student groups dynamics; experience working with college-based student activists;
- A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience is preferred;
- Knowledge of supply chains in the food industry, including how and where to procure local foods and food products and food distribution is preferred.
This position is approximately 25 hours/week beginning in mid-February and ending June 29, 2018. The pay is $15.49/hour and a generous benefits package is included.
