Using the science of adverse childhood experiences, ACEs Connection Network (ACN) helps communities solve their most intractable problems. We do this by creating and connecting networks of people, organizations and communities to prevent ACEs, heal trauma, and build resilience. See ACEsConnection.com and ACEsTooHigh.com.
We are hiring an experienced social journalist to cover ACEs science across sectors in 10 San Francisco Bay Area counties (San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, Alameda, Contra Costa, Solano, Marin, Napa and Sonoma), with a half-time focus on developments in the pediatric community, and to grow and manage the ACEs in Pediatrics community on ACEs Connection. Community members of ACEs in Pediatrics include all subsectors of the pediatric sector: pediatricians, researchers, nursing staff, administrative staff, parents, K-12 educators, medical school professors, etc. There is also overlap between the ACEs in Pediatrics learning community with other learning communities on ACEs Connection such as ACEs in Education and ACEs in Parenting.
Essential Job Functions
The journalist will develop a “beat” in which they cover the whole range of articles that define a beat: small event stories that might be mostly photos and captions, short profiles of people and organizations, short articles about reports and research, and longer data-driven articles about how an organization or organizations have integrated practices based on ACEs science, what works, what doesn’t, what the data show, and next steps.
The journalist will encourage and edit contributions from members of the San Francisco Bay Area community sites and the ACEs in Pediatrics community site on ACEs Connection. Some of these posts will follow the same distribution path as articles by the journalist.
The journalist will grow and manage the ACEs in Pediatrics learning community, including inviting new members to join the community, helping them post blogs and events, post events, host text chats, connect pediatricians with resources on NPPC and on ACEs Connection, connect members of the community with local geographic-based initiatives, and cross-post appropriate content from the ACEs in Education and Parenting with ACEs communities. Once the community becomes large enough, the journalist will send out a weekly roundup of news and events to all learning community participants.
