Program Associate, Constellation Philanthropy

Denver, Colo.
Feb / 2 / 2018

Organization Description

Constellation Philanthropy is a community of individual funders who work together to learn about the early childhood field in Colorado and to find and support interesting and high-impact philanthropic opportunities in the early childhood space.

More and more research is showing that putting very young children, starting at birth, on the right path from the beginning is one of the most leveraged investments to support educational achievement, reduce future health and mental health issues, and even alleviate poverty in the next generation. But early childhood is a complicated space, encompassing physical health, cognitive development, emotional regulation, parenting behaviors, a diverse array of private and public systems, and much more.

Constellation Philanthropy is dedicated to both helping individual philanthropists understand this field in Colorado and giving those donors a leveraged and structured way to make smart grants.

Constellation is fiscally sponsored by TSNE MissionWorks, which will serve as the employer of record for this position.

Position Summary

Constellation Philanthropy is seeking a full-time Program Associate to support the smooth functioning of the organization. As a key member of a small team, the Associate role has two main areas of focus:

  • Manage the pipeline: Oversee Constellation’s process for identifying, vetting, and prioritizing possible early childhood philanthropic investments, including communicating with potential grantee organizations; explaining the Constellation process; collecting, reviewing, and summarizing application documents; and performing due diligence on applications;
  • Ensure smooth operations: This includes scheduling and logistical support, event planning, preparing budgets and materials for board and committee meetings, and other functions that enable the member-focused operations of the organization.

The Program Associate will join Constellation’s Executive Director in supporting our growing membership of philanthropists interested in learning about and giving to high-impact early childhood philanthropic opportunities through Constellation’s peer community.

The ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills and sound judgement, be detail-oriented and able to work at a fast pace, and able to juggle multiple projects moving forward on parallel paths and tight timelines.

Essential Job Functions

The Program Associate will be based in Constellation Philanthropy’s downtown Denver office and will report to Constellation’s Executive Director. The Associate will be responsible for:

  • Pipeline management. The Associate is responsible for ensuring that the process of identifying, codifying, investigating, and summarizing philanthropic investment opportunities runs smoothly. This is largely process management, but over time is likely to expand in scope.
  • Operational and administrative management. The Associate will serve as the operational backbone for Constellation, setting up and coordinating the day-to-day operations to ensure a well-functioning office, and supporting the Executive Director and members on scheduling, weekly newsletter, expense tracking, and materials preparation and distribution.
  • Event management. Constellation hosts 2-3 events per quarter, with varying levels of “polish” and logistical needs. The Associate will be responsible for all aspects of event management, including scheduling and logistics, issuing and tracking invitations, identifying and securing appropriate space, catering oversight, room setup, and cleanup supervision.

Qualifications

We are seeking candidates who excel at managing complicated logistics, balance competing priorities, have excellent inter-personal skills, are self-motivated, and are comfortable working independently. The ideal candidate would have:

  • A track record of high performance in implementing detail-oriented, multi-faceted projects;
  • Demonstrated commitment to quickly determining the best path forward even in the face of obstacles;
  • Experience in juggling multiple, time-sensitive projects with persistence;
  • Associate’s degree required, Bachelor’s degree preferred;
  • Proven administrative and office management capabilities;
  • Experience creating digital newsletters and other marketing material.
