U.S. retail sales for chocolate in 2007 are expected to surpass last year's $16 billion mark. Instead of benefiting, the average cocoa farmer has actually seen earnings fall by more than half in the past decade as some confectionery companies have driven cocoa prices down. TSNE and Chefs Collaborative recently brought Green & Black’s Organic cofounders together with area nonprofits to discuss fair trade, sustainability and the organic food movement - and sample organic chocolate and coffee.
