EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR’S FORUM: THE INQUIRING LEADER

The inquiring leader is one who uses inquiry as a regular, conscious strategy to enhance staff participation in decision-making. Posing questions to staff about their decisions can spur creativity and ensure the best programs possible. The inquiring leader needs to use this strategy with care, however, so inquiry is not “heard” as a rejection of an idea.

TSNE Executive Director Jonathan Spack looks at the complexities involved in being an inquiring leader in the nonprofit workplace and asks colleagues to share their leadership experiences and perspectives. Read more.

Many of us in the nonprofit world are vividly aware of the value that press coverage can provide in shaping public attitudes. Too often, however, we find it tough to get the progressive “take” on current issues into newspapers or magazines let alone on television news or radio and TV talk shows. Longtime marketer David Meerman Scott has produced a free booklet, The New Rules of PR, that can help us bypass the media and use the Web to enter our press release messages directly into the public discourse. Visit www.davidmeermanscott.com/resources.htm to read or download the booklet and related resources.
