Workshop Description

This workshop will begin with a review of key financial indicators for reading and interpreting financial statements. Participants will then use their financial statement know-how to learn best practices for creating a sound budget. Throughout the discussion, participants will gain an understanding of how financial measures are important tools for planning, helping organizations to build capacity and fulfilling mission goals.

This interactive workshop will include interactive sharing of information, group exercises and ample time for questions and answers. Participants will be encouraged to think about specific questions in advance, as well as in response to workshop content.

Audience: Controllers or similar finance staff, program staff who work on budgets, and people entering management level jobs who have limited finance backgrounds

Presenter Bio

Meave O’Marah provides interim and part-time CFO consulting to start-up businesses, small companies and non-profit organizations. She also consults in operational areas. Meave has experience in the private and public sectors in fiscal policy, budgeting, start-up activities, accounting systems design and client management. She has worked in politics and public policy in London, New York City and Massachusetts, covering topics ranging from education to administration and finance. Meave is a graduate of Milton Academy, Harvard College and Oxford University, and is currently pursuing an MBA in entrepreneurship at Babson College.
