Workshop Description: Leaders increasingly recognize that in a multicultural society, diversity matters when serving our constituencies, building staff teams, and interacting with the community. At the same time, many leaders have questions about what is necessary to build a diverse workforce, better work with clients from differing cultural backgrounds, and, in general, lead change to promote diversity in their nonprofits.

Achieving diversity does not mean it can be sustained without understanding the challenge of inclusion. This interactive workshop for executive directors, board members and senior leaders will introduce a systems perspective that illustrates the multiple, interrelated factors necessary for inclusive non-profit organizations.

Building on the work of Third Sector New England’s Diversity & Inclusion Initiative, workshop content will focus on exploring organizational readiness and creating the foundation for sustainable change. The facilitators will share case studies and examples from their extensive experience working with a wide range of non-profit organizations.

Presenter Bios:
Tyra B. Sidberry is an organizational development consultant with more than 20 years of experience working with nonprofits. Her background includes a unique combination of corporate and non-profit sector experience. During 16 years in educational publishing, she acquired managerial and organizational structure expertise.

Currently, she manages the Diversity & Inclusion Initiative (DII), a grant program at Third Sector New England with a mission to increase effectiveness and systemic change within individual organizations and the non-profit sector by promoting cultural inclusion and organizational diversity. Through funding and technical support from the DII, organizations and the communities that they serve confront institutional racism and other forms of oppression by refocusing groups on mission, vision and values.

Bob Greene, senior consultant at TSNE, brings wide-ranging skills and experience to his work with a diverse group of clients. Working as an organization development consultant for over 14 years, he brings together a broad knowledge of theory with strong practical skills. Areas of proven expertise include leading organizational change, incorporating diversity, coaching leaders and teams, and strategic planning. He has authored several articles and was an adjunct faculty at Montgomery College (Maryland).
