Third Sector New England’s Consulting Services staff have more than 50 years of combined experience in helping non-profit managers, staff, board members and other volunteers strengthen their programs and operations.

Offering support from assessment to strategic planning and from staff and board leadership development and transition to human resources, our services also include constituent involvement, program design and custom-designed training for your nonprofit.


Heather Harker

Heather Harker, director of consulting & executive transitions, has worked with Third Sector New England since 2001. Heather is known for her straightforward style that honors the emotional and intellectual complexity of processes while also yielding concrete results.

She specializes in organizational assessment, organization development, facilitation and strategic planning, and has worked with nonprofits in southern New England as well as nationally.

Prior to joining TSNE, Heather was the assistant director of the Kentucky Commission on the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, focusing on policy development, advocacy and program implementation. She worked closely with the director to pass significant pieces of legislation and to expand the agency’s services four-fold. While there, Heather received the prestigious 3-year Kellogg International Leadership Program fellowship.

Heather has a B.A. in international relations from Brown University and a master’s degree in public administration, specializing in leadership and non-profit management, from Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government. She is fluent in both American Sign Language and English.

Lyn Freundlich

Photo: Lyn FreundlichLyn Freundlich, TSNE's director of human resources and administration, has worked for Third Sector New England since 2003. In addition to overseeing the internal operational and personnel aspects of TSNE, she provides employee relations and other human resources-oriented consultation to non-profit clients.

She has extensive experience helping organizations develop a culture that recognizes the importance of skilled, intentional supervision and training and supporting supervisors. She works with groups to design and implement mission-related, values-based systems and practices that enable people to do their very best work.

Lyn has over 20 years of experience in the non-profit sector, primarily in volunteer and human resources. She has worked in large, international organizations and tiny, member driven, local ones. She worked for nearly 9 years with the AIDS Action Committee of Massachusetts. She also served as the executive director for Countdown to Kindergarten, a Boston-based community collaborative. Lyn has a B.A. from Oberlin College and a Masters Degree in Organization and Management from Antioch University of New England. Lyn considers employees an organization’s greatest asset.

Hez Norton

Photo: Hez NortonHez Norton, executive and organizational transitions program manager, previously served as the executive director of Resource Generation, a national nonprofit that engages young adults with financial wealth in social change philanthropy. Prior to Resource Generation, Hez founded and was the executive director of North Carolina Lambda Youth Network.

Hez also led the youth involvement program in the North Carolina Governor’s Office and was a program officer for Learn and Serve America with the North Carolina Commission on National and Community Service. Hez brings experience as an interim executive director as well as a consultant to nonprofits in the areas of organizational development and fundraising.

A Rockefeller Foundation Next Generation Leadership Fellow, Hez also received a fellowship from the Lyndhurst Foundation’s Southern Community Partners Program. Hez served as a board member of the Funding Exchange Foundation and currently sits on the board of Funders for Gay and Lesbian Issues. Hez is a co-creator and contributing editor to the book Classified: How to Stop Hiding Your Privilege and Use It for Social Change. Hez received a B.A. in public policy from Duke University and a master’s degree in public administration from Northeastern University.
