Organization Description
The Connecticut Network to Abolish the Death Penalty (CNADP) is a grassroots organization and the voice for death penalty abolition in the state.
Job Summary
CNADP is leading the effort to legislatively repeal the death penalty in Connecticut. In 2009, the Connecticut Legislature passed a repeal bill in both chambers, which was vetoed by Governor M. Jodi Rell.
The law enforcement organizer is responsible for reaching out to former and current Connecticut police officers, prosecutors and corrections officials for a dialogue to find out their needs, and where the death penalty falls in terms of their law enforcement priorities. The organizer will need to travel and conduct strategic organizing in targeted legislative districts under the guidance of the executive director.
Essential Job Functions
- Develop an outreach plan to engage members of law enforcement.
- Train law enforcement to speak to a variety of groups, including policy-makers.
- Schedule and present educational events for law enforcement organizations.
- Prepare written materials (flyers, brochures) as needed to support outreach efforts.
- As needed, plan media and educational events featuring law enforcement.
Qualifications
- Confident and experienced public speaker
- Commitment to ending the death penalty
- Experience with community organizing and event planning, a plus
- Strong verbal, written and interpersonal skills
- Experience working with and motivating volunteers in various projects
- Attentiveness to detail and ability to work under pressure
- Self-starter, but respectful of team goals and processes
- Ability to work some evenings and weekends
- A valid driver's license and being an insurable driver (in-state travel required)
- Proficiency in PowerPoint and publishing programs, a plus
- Spanish-speaking skills, a plus.
