Organizational Description

The Massachusetts Organization for Addiction Recovery (MOAR), a fiscally sponsored program of Third Sector New England (TSNE), organizes recovering individuals, families and friends into a collective voice to educate the public about the value of recovery from alcohol and other addictions.

Job Summary

The YARD (Young Adult Recovery Destination) recovery coach supports project participants and serves in a role as role model, mentor, advocate and motivator.

Key Job Elements

  • Provide short term recovery transitional support to YARD participants
  • Serve as a role model, mentor, advocate and motivator
  • Be open to sharing personal experiences to develop authentic peer-to-peer relationships
  • Provide peer individual or recovery group education support, if required
  • Meet, communicate, and provide linkage to recovery support
  • Meet with YARD project director, MOAR project director for supervision as scheduled
  • Attend scheduled project education in-service or other meetings as scheduled
  • Documents tasks and submits time sheet on a weekly basis

Qualifications

  • Must have a personal belief in addiction recovery; a genuine hope and optimism that peers can be successful, a sincere interest in the welfare of their peers and an ability to be flexible in engaging peers on their level and according to their needs
  • Must have a high school diploma or G.E.D. or equivalent
  • Must have a working knowledge of the drug and alcohol treatment system
  • A commitment to the recovery community is required
  • Requires an understanding or a willingness to learn stages of change
