Workshop Description

Experience and research demonstrate that organizations focusing on sustaining effective leadership over time are more sustainable and impactful.

Leadership succession planning enhances long-term sustainability of organizations, while ensuring continued relevance and mission effectiveness. Having a succession plan:

  • Helps to build the executive and board leadership capacity of the organization
  • Reduces risks that may be associated with a leadership transition
  • Creates alignment between the leadership roles and the strategic priorities of the organization

This workshop is designed for board leaders and executives (especially founders and long-term executives) who are interested in building organizational capacity, strengthening internal leadership and developing emergency succession plans.

The workshop will offer tools and resources for succession planning that minimize risks of transitions and build organizational capacity.

Key learning objectives:

  • Understanding of 3 phases of succession planning
  • Clarity around an organization’s readiness for succession planning and a leadership transition
  • Roles and responsibilities in succession planning
