Moving Beyond Icebreakers 101
Hosted by Teen Empowerment
Thursday, January 12, 9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

Interactive methods are usually ignored or marginalized as "ice breakers" to be used only in the first few moments of a community meeting, or first few hours or days of a group's experience. This workshop demonstrates the depth and richness of several interactive exercises and how to use them to engage the hearts, minds and energies of diverse groups of people. Whether you work with teens or adults, you will leave this workshop with specific tools you can use in the next meeting you facilitate.

While Massachusetts has been at the forefront of affordable housing production, the availability of permanent housing for homeless and other extremely low income families remains a serious challenge. The forum will also ask the question of what more can be done to create housing that is affordable for extremely low income families. The keynote speaker, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Assistant Secretary Mercedes Márquez, and a panel of experts will explore the role of government and philanthropy in creating and maintaining affordable housing; current research on how safe, stable housing generates positive outcomes for children; and ideas for how we can continue working together to meet the demand for more deeply affordable housing for Massachusetts families in these challenging economic times.
