Third Sector New England is a nonprofit organization providing support, training and management resources to strengthen individual nonprofits and build our sector’s capacity to advance social justice. As stronger, more resilient organizations, nonprofits can better engage people in community and public life. Certainly, the Nonprofit Workout is designed to help nonprofits build their program capacity – and their ability to both adapt to and create change.
A Brief History of the Nonprofit Workout
When TSNE (then known as the Massachusetts Health Research Institute) acquired the New England Nonprofit Quarterly in 1997 from David Garvey, the acquisition included Garvey’s other enterprise, the New England Nonprofit Expo, an annual two-day trade show and workshop event. Over time, as TSNE’s mission and programs evolved to incorporate modern management thinking and practices, the magazine and the Expo reflected those changes.
We reshaped the format and content of the conference to offer participants access to some of the nation’s best trainers and presenters on nonprofit management and related issues. And as the magazine was re-christened as The Nonprofit Quarterly to reflect a wider constituency, we renamed our conference, too. The Nonprofit Workout, now a biennial event, has become New England’s preeminent skills-building conference for nonprofit leaders and managers.
