TSNE Names New Chief Operating Officer

[BOSTON, March 5, 2020] — TSNE MissionWorks (TSNE), a $50 million organization that provides fiscal sponsorship and shared operational services, management consulting, and capacity building support to other nonprofits, is proud to name Shawn Blackwood as its new Chief Operating Officer.

Shawn comes to TSNE with 15 years of experience as a senior manager and director with John Hancock Financial Services where he led the development and operations of new business products and managed services, and orchestrated the growth of one of the company’s most diverse teams. His dedication to increasing diversity, equity, and inclusion at John Hancock resulted in the business’ first employee resource group for professionals of color and he helped champion the hiring of the organization’s first Diversity Officer.

“TSNE was searching for a COO with a strong track record of leading through an equity lens and a commitment to developing the capacity of our staff,” says TSNE CEO Elaine Ng. “Shawn clearly demonstrated his commitment to these core values through his work at John Hancock and we are excited to have him onboard.”

In addition to his professional resume, Shawn has been actively involved with nonprofits that help youth from underserved communities. He has volunteered his time as a coach and mentor with Boston Cares’ MLK Scholars, Citizen Schools, and YMCA Boston.

“I am excited and honored to be joining such a great organization and to continue the work that Elaine, the Board, and the rest of the staff have been doing around creating a more just and democratic society,” says Shawn. “TSNE has been doing this work for over 60 years, which to me, is a testament to its relevance and impact in the nonprofit space. I look forward to the work that lies ahead as we continue this journey.”
